Home Sweet Home

Meet Mr. Brant.

Brant arrived Tuesday, February 28th. I totally wasn't expecting him to come so fast, I thought for sure that I would have to be induced on March 5th. I'm so thankful he is here though and I feel so blessed to have him in my life.

Brant's birth story:

February 28th:
3:45 a.m.- Mother gets up to pee for the third time during the night and gets diarrhea cramps (or at least that is what she thought they were) and decides to lay down and consider that she must have ate something terribly wrong.

3:55 a.m.- Another terrible "diarrhea" cramp.

4:05 a.m.- And another.

4:15 a.m.- And another.

4:20 a.m.- Mother decides to wake up her husband to notify him that she may possibly be going into labor.

4:21 a.m.- Mother decides to call her mother to see if these cramps could maybe be contractions, the real ones.

4:22 a.m.- Her clever mother explains to her that they could be and to keep track of when and how long they occur.

4:30 a.m.- Another contraction.

4:35 a.m.- And another

4:40 a.m.- And another

4:45 a.m.- Mother and father decide it's probably time to go to the hospital. They grab their bags and get on their way.

5:00 a.m.- Mother is dilated at a three. Nurse explains that they will keep her there for another hour to see if anything else happens.

5:20 a.m.- Mother is in agonizing pain and insists to be checked again.

5:20 a.m.- She is now dilated to a four.

6:00 a.m.- Mother is now even in more pain and has dilated to a seven. She wants the anesthesiologist to get to the hospital. Now.

6:30 a.m.- Anesthesiologist is still not there and mother wants to kill someone. She is thinking to herself that she will never do this again. Ever.

7:00 a.m.- The most desired man at the moment finally arrives and brings mother much relief.

7:30 a.m.- Doctor arrives to examine progress and expects baby to arrive within the next hour or two.

8:00 a.m.- Mother begins to do some pushes with the doctor. Then it is time to take a break because the baby needs to turn a different direction.

8:30 a.m.- Mother feels like their is a knife going into her left side and is worried the epidural isn't working on that side. The anesthesiologist arrives to save the day again to give another dosage. Mother then "accidentally" gives herself another dosage shortly after the anesthesiologist gave her one and feels too numb to push.

8:45 a.m.- The doctor has mother push again but then decides to have her wait 30 minutes for the epidural to wear off a little so she can feel when a contraction comes in order to push.

9:15 a.m.- Pushing begins again. Mother asks for the mirror so she can see the baby's head and is a little frightened but intrigued by the sight. She can see hair on the baby's head-lots of it.

10:12 a.m.- After much pushing, baby finally arrives!

Welcome to the world Brant!

He sure loves his daddy!

He is pretty much a stud.

sitting, waiting, wishing

Yes, today is my due date. And no, baby boy is still not here. I tried to mentally prepare myself for going over a week but i'm weak and find myself having little anxiety episodes and wanting to crawl out of my skin.

On Tuesday I had to get an ultrasound to make sure everything was alright because my stomach hasn't really been growing much the last few weeks. My doc just wanted to make sure that my fluids were alright and that he was getting everything he needed. Thankfully, everything looked good. I was hoping I would be able to see him but he is too big now to really see anything in an ultrasound. The radiologist said he has lots of hair though--I had no idea they could see hair in an ultrasound, but i'm sure excited.

It's time to come child. Pretty, pretty please?

Bucky and I both love the following names:

1. Hudson

2. Brant

3. Beckham

I guess we will have to wait to see him.

First Examination

So I had my first examination today to see if i've dilated and whatnot. A med-student was there to observe the examination and thankfully I was able to decline her presence in the room. You may call me rude, but I do not need anyone else seeing my crotch. No thank you. I am now 38 weeks and dilated to a one and am 70% effaced. I'm not sure if effaced is the right word but it is something like that.  My doc told me that baby boy could be coming this week or maybe not for another three. I'm crossing my fingers that it is no longer than two weeks. I can't wait to see what he looks like. Maybe he will look like this...

or this

or (hopefully) this

Either way I will love him and can't wait for him to get here!

skool

I never thought I would say this...

I miss school.

I miss writing papers, reading articles, listening to the comments of annoying fellow students who believe they have to answer every question so that the professor is impressed, and actually feeling like I am somewhat smart. Without school my brain is withering away. I have a combination of pregnancy brain and school withdrawals--not good. So if I ever seem a little spacey or in another world when your talking to me, that's probably because I am. I apologize.

In order to somewhat help solve this problem i've decided to learn a new word each week. At first I signed up for a daily email that contained a new and interesting word but that was too overwhelming for me. I can't handle learning one new word a day. One new word per week sounds much better for my diminishing brain. The word for this week is:

Sensational-adj.1.of or relating to the senses. 2.exceedingly great, outstanding. 3.arousing strong feelings, intense interest, often in an exaggerated way.

Your probably thinking that this isn't that cool of a word because it is quite common and easily understood but I decided I want to incorporate it into my vocabulary more. So there you have it, sensational.

Not only am I going to learn a new word each week but my big sis and I have started a book club, it's kind of a big deal. This month we are reading "Black Like Me" by John Howard Griffin.

I'm only into the first 50 pages so far but I absolutely love it. I highly recommend this book. This book is about a reporters real-life experience with the south in the 1960's. He goes through skin treatments to turn his skin black in order to fully experience the life of a black man in the south. People, this was only fifty years ago--you will be stunned when you read about what he went through. Stunned.

I am now only down to 23 days until D Day. Yes, delivery day. It doesn't seem that long but I can't imagine my tummy getting any bigger, I feel like I might explode. Baby boy will be here soon though and I can't wait to meet him!

Have a sensational weekend now:)

The Dishonater

This mean, fightin' machine is my awesome little brother Kobe, aka Dish. I have no idea where the nickname Dish came from but it has stuck with him. Last weekend his football team won the championship for their league and I couldn't be more proud of him.

Kobe played tackle this year and had quite a few sacks. It's been fun to watch these boys play this season. They went undefeated. Congrats Dish, you had an awesome season, can't wait to watch you next year!

Baby Boy

Here is what we have seen of our offspring thus far in the 23 weeks that I have been prego.

These pictures were taken about a month ago, but that day it really hit me that I am actually having a baby. It doesn't seem real to me that there is something growing inside of me (besides the fact that I haven't felt like myself in five months)until I actually get to see him or feel him move. I hope I will be prepared to be a mother by the time he gets here. I'm not worried about Bucky at all, I already know he is going to be an awesome dad.

I made a list of things I want to get done before I have the baby:
      1. Get my wedding scrapbook done
      2. Have all of my preschool lessons put together and
      organized
      3. Get my house in order somewhat
      4. Catch up in my journal
      5. Have the nursery finished

Before blogging I was looking through photo's I need to order and store in case something happened to our computer and I came across these photos from our wedding video.

These photos get me really excited to see what our little guy is going to look like and act like. Hopefully he is more like Bucky and has a cute little tush like in the picture above;)

119 days to go...

Peace & Love

As I was running errands the other day I drove past one of these...

I couldn't help but smile because the driver had on a tie dye shirt with long messy hair and it took me back to the 60's/70's (if I actually new what it was like then).

The point of me telling this story is because this vehicle is my absolute dream car. If I had to choose between Shia's Bumblebee corvette and a Volkswagen van, the van would win hands down.

I tried explaining to Bucky how this would be such a great family vehicle (if it were entirely re-gutted and had a new engine) because it's fun, roomy, and groovy. He wasn't buying it though. I guess I will have to wait until the next life to get this absolutely fabulous van.

In my opinion, I believe my future children will love this van. I will be the cool mom. Or they may be super embarrassed of me. For the time being I will just have to purchase a toy Volkswagen van like the one above. A girl can only dream.
